Reptilian Process

A bit of process work on the reptilian illustration/collage:

Conspiracies in Red

– the original illustration

reptilian sketch
-reptilian “sketch”

reptilian
– final reptilian

The original illustration was designed for a woodcut print, and later a linocut. It was also used as a book cover for a collaborative project between G. Arthur Brown and Zoltan Komor (which may have shown up in a Hungarian newspaper). The mixed media collage version resulted from me wanting to remake the image to fit the kind of work I am now producing. Mock-ups, or what I refer to as sketches, are usually produced to figure out placement, colors, and source imagery selection.

The Kafka Effekt

As of this entry, our most recent assignment was to make three illustrations based on any book in existence. I chose D. Harlan Wilson’s excellent The Kafka Effect, and made pieces inspired by the short stories Feet, A Description, and Boyeraqueri Bubbolifiticus’s Body.

Lucky Peach

A recent class assignment had us making illustrations designed to work with an article from a short list of magazines. Lucky Peach was among them, and they seemed like a good fit. I did not choose an existing article, but obviously the subject is sushi. I will post the cover designs in a separate post in the near future.
